What's Happening around First UMC...

United Methodist Men

Meet the first Sunday of the Month for breakfast, a devotional/prayer time and Christian fellowship.  The men themselves prepare a sumptuous feast for their breakfasts to fill their stomachs and the devotional time fills their souls.  A free will offering is taken and ALL men of the church are invited.  Through out the year the UM Men do many projects and help with camperships for our youth to go to camp.

The first Sunday breakfast will be held on November 2nd at 7:00AM.  (Note change in time!)

Current Officers: President - Larry Anderson

  Treasurer – Jeff Perry

United Methodist Women

Our United Methodist Women are a vital and active group within our church.  They hold their meetings the second Tuesday of each month September through May.  Another very busy and vital group within our church, this organization is open to ALL women of the church.  The women do many projects and help with camperships for our youth to go to camp.  The meeting time is 7:00pm unless otherwise posted.

The MARY CIRCLE also meets the third Tuesday of each month and also is held at a circle member’s home.  Their meeting time is 7:30pm.  Both groups are open to any interested women of the church.

MUSIC MINISTRY AT FIRST CHURCH

First United Methodist Church boasts of several music programs offered to young and old alike.  They include:

Monday:

High School Handbell Choir, directed by Ann Bokma, meets from 6:00 P.M. until 6:45 P.M.

D.I.G. – Youth Drama Group, directed by Debbie Airgood, meets from 6:45 P.M. until 7:45 P.M. (D.I.G. (Dive Into God) is a group of young people that work on and perform many skits for the enjoyment of our church congregations.  If your teenager would be interested in a different approach to add to our worship services and to just plain have fun, please contact the church office, 814-837-7120 for more information).

Celebration Bells, directed by Ann Bokma, is our adult handbell choir that meets at 7:00 P.M.  This is a very enthusiastic group of bell ringers and we are always looking for those who may desire to catch the bell ringer’s bug!

Tuesday After School Kids’ Happening Program:

September to April.  Children in Kindergarten through Third Grade enjoy time spent with our capable music leaders.

Genesis Choir, directed by Coleen Lundeen with Kathy Long as their accompanist, is for children Kindergarten through the 2nd Grade.  They enjoy a time of snacks, games, stories and choir.

Angelus Choir, directed by Donna Nelson with Kristi Gelsick as their accompanist, is for children 3rd Grade through 5th Grade.  They too enjoy a time of snacks, games, crafts and choir.

Beginning Chimes, directed by Kathy Long, is for children 3rd Grade through 5th grade and meets immediately following Angelus Choir.  They conclude at 4:45 P.M.

Our Children’s Choirs sing and ring the second Sunday of every month from October through April.

If you are interested in your child participating in the wonderful, fun-filled program for our children, please contact the church office at 814-837-7120.

Wednesday:

Sanctuary Adult Choir, directed by Renee Magnuson with Debbie Airgood as their accompanist.

Our choir meets at 7:00 P.M. and rehearses until 8:15 P.M.

Friday:

Bells of Praise, directed by Ann Bokma.  This is a group of Middle School aged kids that, like the adults, really enjoy ringing handbells.  They meet after school (3:00 P.M.) and have a great time of making music with the bells.

If you or your child have a desire to become part of our music program, please feel free to contact the church office (814-837-7120).

OPEN HEARTS, OPEN MINDS, OPEN DOORS

As United Methodists we strive to live up to our campaign of Open Hearts, Open Minds, and Open Doors.  Our doors are open to many community a civic groups to use our facility for their meetings.  The Girl Scouts have 2 troops meeting here weekly.  The WIC program meets Thursdays on a regular basis to help women and children of our area.  The Red Cross holds bloodmobiles here on a regular basis with many responding from the community of Kane and surrounding areas for the donation of blood.  AA, Al-Anon, Al-Ateen meet every Thursday evening at 8:00pm.  These are only a few of the groups that meet within our walls on a regular basis.  We continue to strive to keep open hearts …. open minds …..open doors.
